Este miércoles en Nueva York comienza el juicio contra Harvey Weinstein acusado de abuso sexual, caso que propició el movimiento “#MeToo” en Hollywood, con un jurado compuesto por 12 personas que decidirán si es culpable o no. Se perfila para convertirse en un hito mediático, que se seguirá, sin duda, en todo el mundo.
Un primer dato importante reside en que el juez James M. Burke permitirá a la defensa citar los correos electrónicos que intercambiaron Weinstein y las mujeres que lo acusan, con la salvedad de que no podrá mostrar la totalidad de los mensajes.
El equipo de defensa del acusado ve estos correos como pieza fundamental exculpatoria. “Estamos en posesión de docenas y docenas y docenas de correos electrónicos entre Harvey Weinstein y las personas que van a venir a esta sala del tribunal y afirman que los agredió sexualmente”, dijo Cheronis.
Esta información es relevante para la defensa.
“Los correos electrónicos no pueden ser más relevantes y probatorios, porque incluyen declaraciones de los testigos denunciantes en este caso. Podremos mostrar a través del interrogatorio que los testigos que afirman que Harvey Weinstein los agredió sexualmente, también se jactaban de tener una relación sexual con él”.
El asistente del fiscal de distrito Joan Illuzzi, dijo que el fiscal Hast mostrará al jurado las fotos de las seis mujeres que testificarán en el caso. La abogada aseguró que al mostrar las imágenes, el jurado podrá “organizar en su mente quién testificará, y así comprender y anticipar lo que esas mujeres estarán diciendo”.
