Como parte de los festejos tradicionales del Día de Muertos, el centro de la Ciudad de México será el escenario de la sexta Mega Procesión de Catrinas, un evento lleno de color, sonido y movimiento.
Desfilarán 16 contingentes temáticos, habrá más de 150 maquillistas que se encargarán de caracterizar a los ciudadanos que quieran participar en el evento que se llevará a cabo el 26 de octubre.
El recorrido de las catrinas, que tendrán como elemento distintivo la mezclilla, iniciará en el Ángel de la Independencia, seguirá por Paseo de la Reforma, Avenida Juárez, Eje Central, Avenida 5 de Mayo hasta llegar al Zócalo capitalino. Se esperan más de 50 mil asistentes.
En conferencia de prensa, el secretario de Cultura de la Ciudad de México, José Alfonso Suárez del Real y Aguilera, dijo que “nuestros ritos funerarios son el sincretismo expresado de nuestros pueblos mesoamericanos con los pueblos que llegaron a fusionarse a nuestro territorio”.
El funcionario comentó que la Catrina de José Guadalupe Posada es el proceso de una mixtura con la moda, “por eso yo desde el principio entendí que tenía que haber una moda característica, y qué mejor que fuese de diseñadores mexicanos y qué mejor que fuese de la mezclilla auténticamente mexicanizada, a pesar de que su origen es de otras regiones, para nosotros es algo muy propio, característico nuestro”.
Siguiendo esta directriz, una marca de moda mexicana hizo la propuesta al diseñador Eduardo Jiménez, con gran experiencia en el diseño y confección de trajes combinando elementos culturales, urbanos y creativos, para diseñar nuevas versiones de este personaje tan presente en el imaginario colectivo mexicano.
Jiménez explicó que se hicieron dos versiones de la catrina, uno clásico y otro en estilo steampunk, creados con jeans reutilizados, retacería, aditamentos como broches, cierres, etiquetas y nuevos materiales como alambre para detalles, como los anteojos.
Los festejos por el Día de Muertos arrancan el sábado 19 de octubre con el Desfile y Concurso de Alebrijes Monumentales, continúa con la Mega Procesión de Catrinas, el sábado 26; el Desfile Internacional de Día de Muertos, el domingo 27, y el Gran Desfile de Día de Muertos el 2 de noviembre.
